Applications for Semester 1, 2027 are now open

St Paul’s College Graduate House welcomes applications from postgraduate students and academics at the University of Sydney ready to join a thriving, close-knit academic community.

Applying is simple: complete an application form and, if successful, attend an interview — a chance for us to get to know you, and for you to see whether Graduate House is the right fit.

Places each year are limited and in high demand, so we encourage you to start your application early.

Students studying a full-time postgraduate degree at the University of Sydney, or academics working at or affiliated with the University of Sydney.

Who Can Apply?

St Paul’s College Graduate House is a richly diverse community, with members from across Australia, New Zealand, and around the world. Our accomplished community includes:

  • Master’s students (MBA, MA, MSc, MPhil)
  • Honours students
  • Postgraduates and distinguished undergraduate students (typically third year and above)
  • Doctoral candidates and research fellows
  • Career academics
  • Visiting professors and scholars affiliated with the University of Sydney
  • Recipients of research grants and academic scholarships
  • Clinical staff in Medicine (RPAH), Veterinary Science, and related fields

Application Process

Our three-step application process helps us get to know you, and helps you discover what life at Graduate House could offer you.

1. Application

Submit an application form found on our application portal and pay the $200 application fee.

You will be required to attach a personal statement about why you would like to reside at St Paul’s, your birth certificate or passport, and a recent head-and-shoulders photograph.

2. Interview

Your application will be reviewed and, if successful, you will be offered an interview. Interviews can be held in person or online for applicants living interstate or overseas.

3. Offer

Successful interviewees will receive an offer of residency. For students awaiting offers from the University of Sydney, offers of places are conditional upon you gaining entry to the desired degree course at the University of Sydney.

Can international students apply for postgraduate accommodation at St Paul's?

Yes, absolutely. International students and academics are a significant part of what makes our postgraduate community so rich. Members come from all over the world, offering residents the opportunity to live and learn alongside people with different worldviews and perspectives.

We celebrate this diversity regularly through cultural dinners and events.

Yes, there is an application fee of $200. 

Demand for postgraduate residency places is high, with limited spots offered each year. We recommend applying as soon as you receive your offer to study a postgraduate degree at the University of Sydney. Applications for Semester 1, 2027 are now open, and close Monday 30 November, 2026. 

Postgraduate students reside in McMillan building, a dedicated building for our postgraduate community. Although some senior undergraduates also live in the bottom of the building, the majority of residents are postgraduates and academics. This ensures that the environment is suited to the demands of a postgraduate degree.
