St Paul’s warmly congratulates alumnus Dr Andrew Bell SC on his appointment as President of the NSW Court of Appeal.
Dr Bell is a leading Sydney barrister who has a long association with the College. He was a resident student from 1985 to 1989 and a member of the College Council from 2004 to 2013, which included service as Deputy Chairman in 2010 to 2013.
As a student at St Paul’s, Dr Bell won dual University Medals in Law and Arts from the University of Sydney. He became Rhodes Scholar for New South Wales in 1990 and topped the Bachelor of Civil Law at Oxford in his year, before earning his doctorate from Oxford the following year.
Dr Bell joined the Bar in 1995. He took silk in 2006 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of the NSW Bar Association.
Last year, Dr Bell commissioned a new sculpture by Ayako Saito, “Heaven’s Door”, which forms the centrepiece of the College’s new quadrangle formed by the Ivan Head Building and Graduate House.
