Following the College XV’s victorious campaign opener against St John’s on 27 April (63-0), confidence was high among the troops when Wesley came to town on 4 May. Playing in front of a passionate crowd on the College Oval, the rugby side displayed the toughest of carries up the guts, excellent attacking flair in the backs, and defensive brutality across the park. Final score; 62-3. Our arch rivals, St Andrew’s, were next. The clash took place under lights at the Sydney University Football Ground (formerly No. 2 Oval) on 18 May. As expected, Drew’s rolled out a top shelf side, stacked with Shute Shield first graders and first colts, however, this did not deter the Paulines. A thrilling match that showcased all the elements of rugby ensued. The Androvians had the edge in the forwards, but our boys probably had the better of them in the backs. Despite the close nature of the contest for the majority of the match, the final score ended up 34-21 in favour of the sky blue and whites. Nevertheless, the Paul’s XV should hold their heads high for their efforts during the entire campaign. See the video HERE
