On Saturday 29 February the wider Pauline community gathered to celebrate the commissioning and installation of the new Warden. Following his prior years as a Pauline student and as a Fellow on the College Council, the Reverend Dr Ed Loane cemented his commitment to College when he was formally installed as the 12th Warden of St Paul’s by the Right Reverend Dr Michael Stead, Bishop of South Sydney.
More than 250 students and friends of College attended the Chapel Service, jointly led by Bishop Stead and the College Chaplain, Reverend Antony Weiss. The Director of Music, Mr David Drury, conducted several uplifting hymns with the College Choir.
Following readings by Miss Eveline Dwyer on behalf of Graduate House, and Mr Harry Croker on behalf of the Undergraduate community, the Deputy Chairman of Council, the Reverend Andrew Sempell, presented Dr Loane to Bishop Stead.
Dr Loane knelt before the Bishop and took an oath of service to the College, indicating his resolve to accept the responsibilities of the office of Warden, and work tirelessly to ensure all who live and learn at Paul’s may flourish and excel.
With the new Warden formally installed, Bishop Stead gave a sermon, followed by readings from the Senior Tutor, Mr Philip Barr, the President of the St Paul’s College Foundation, Mr Geoff Lovell, and the Associate Dean of Graduate House, Ms Katie Allan.
Attendees then congregated in the Main Quad to hear from the Vice-Chancellor and the new Warden, while enjoying drinks and canapés. The pleasant afternoon was well-received by the Pauline community, and was a great opportunity for everyone to join together and wish Dr Loane the very best!
