Paulines and friends should note there is no intention to close the College, however, for the duration of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Health Alert the College will restrict its events and operations to residents only.
This means that there are to be no visitors to the College during this period, reducing the risk of guests unintentionally transmitting the virus to our students, whose safety is paramount, and vice-versa.

The 2020 Annual Carol Service will be broadcast on line and available from 7.30 pm on the night that has been traditionally our annual Carol Service, the Sunday after exams. The service will feature all the usual elements of the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

You are welcome to join the members of the St Paul’s College community ON LINE at the annual Service of Commemoration for the fallen on ANZAC Day. The College especially remembers the sacrifice and service of the hundreds of Paulines who enlisted in the service of their country in the Sudan, South Africa, the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, more recent conflicts and peace-keeping operations.
On Anzac morning at 10 an invitation will be sent to all those Paulines and friends whose email addresses are on file to link to our closed YouTube video.

College Chapel
After many months of refurbishment the College’s pipe organ is ready for normal duties supporting services of worship and concerts in the College Chapel.
Please join us for the opening recital with internationally acclaimed concert organist David Drury. David is the Director of Music at the College and has led our musical programme since his appointment in 1992. David is joined by John Foster (trumpet) and Elise Morton (soprano).
The programme will include well known pieces by JS Bach, Charpentier, Moreau, Peeters, Handel, Vivaldi, Buxtehude, Erbach and Karg-Elert.

The recital will be followed by afternoon tea.

During the recital the Chaplain will re-dedicate the organ and we will be recognising the very generous support of the Albert Family, the original donors of the organ. It was brought out from Zaandam, The Netherlands where it was built in 1971 and installed in St Paul’s College Chapel in 1972, thanks to the generosity of Sir Alexis Albert (in College 1926-28). In the spirit of the enduring benefaction of the Albert family his son, Robert (in College 1953-56), funded the 2019/20 refurbishment of the organ.

This seminar will examine the incorporation of professional education and training into higher education by looking at the life of Alexander Mackie, the first principle of the Sydney Teachers College and foundation professor of Education at the University of Sydney.

On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. The College hosts a service of commemoration during which a formal wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted at the memorial to the Paulines who perished in two World Wars and other conflicts.

Join us once again for “Victoriana!”, Australia’s longest running theatrical production.
Run under the auspices of the Union, Victoriana! is a remarkable evening of dining and entertainment. Based on the English Music Hall tradition, the show draws on music and comedy of the Victorian era. 2019 is sure to delight!
Returning to the cast is one of Australia’s pre-eminent instrumentalists, the much loved flautist Jane Rutter. Our Master of Ceremonies this year is our very own Peter Cousens AM. Peter has played leading roles in many of the major musicals of our time including the role of the Phantom in London. He has directed and starred in Victoriana! many times over the years. Joining the cast for the first time is soprano Julie Lea Goodwin, who played the role of Christine in Phantom and earlier this year starred as Maria in the Opera on the Harbour production of West Side Story.

Mummers present – The Bald Soprano by Eugene Ionesco
Mummers, the student dramatic society bringing together students from St Paul’s College and The Womens College, invites students, parents, alumni and friends to the Semester 1 play on Thursday 7 (student night), Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June.
The play, an important example of the ‘theatre of the absurd’, consists mainly of a series of meaningless conversations between two couples that eventually deteriorate into babbling. First produced in 1950, Ionesco described it as an ‘antiplay’. Tickets on sale shortly.

ANZAC Commemoration Service – You are welcome to join the members of the St Paul’s College community at the annual Service of Commemoration for the fallen on ANZAC Day. The College especially remembers the sacrifice and service of the hundreds of Paulines who enlisted in the service of their country in the Sudan, South Africa, the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, more recent conflicts and peace-keeping operations.
Following the commemoration service refreshments will be served in the JCR.
This year we welcome the Rev’d John Sanderson as our guest preacher. Fr John is the Senior Assistant Priest at Christ Church St Laurence where he has served since February 2014. Fr John was previously in the Australian Defence Force as an Army Chaplain where he served with the 3rd Battalion the Royal Australian Regiment, 1st Health Support Battalion and the 2nd Commando Regiment. He has undertaken operational deployments to East Timor, the Solomon Islands and twice to Afghanistan. It was in Afghanistan that he was involved in the aftermath of the battle in which Corporal Baird, Australia’s 100th Victoria Cross recipient, was killed as he and other members of the 2nd Commando Regiment assaulted an insurgent-held compound in Afghanistan’s Khod Valley on 22nd June, 2013.
Sydney Research Seminar in Higher Education with Prof Stephen Garton – the Conveners of the Sydney Research Seminar in Higher Education invite alumni, students and staff of the University of Sydney to join them at the May 2018 ‘History of University Life Seminar’. Stephen Garton is Professor of History and Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sydney and will discuss: The Future of Higher Education in Australia – Challenges for the 21st Century University
