Update on College Development and Appointment of Vice Warden

St Paul’s College is making good progress on the implementation of its new development plans which include the expansion and enhancement of the existing College and the establishment of a new Graduate House for postgraduate students and academics. In December 2015 the College Council approved expenditure for the commencement of the first stage of building works for the construction of a new building incorporating 130 rooms. Work has now commenced and completion of this building is expected in 2017. The College is planning to commence the second stage for up to 200 rooms during 2017. This represents a significant step towards the College becoming an internationally recognised place of rigorous intellectual, moral and spiritual engagement at the heart of the University of Sydney: a place where students, academic staff and visitors, reflecting the full spectrum of university life, can interact, grow and learn from one another in a mutually supportive

Update Your Entry in the St Paul’s College Biographical Register

About 5,200 students have enrolled at St Paul’s College since 1857. Every one of them has been listed in the College Biographical Register and during the last fifty years several pleas for information have been circulated, but not always returned. However, we now have a very interesting collection of the lives of Paulines, and we are still working on this project to lessen the deficiencies. Many obituaries in The Pauline have been constructed from two sources: (1) a Pauline’s valete being a sketch of his youthful pastimes and (2) his Biographical Register entry which showed the pattern of his adult life and his achievements. It is now VERY EASY for all Paulines to write their records and email them to the AlumniOfficer@stpauls.edu.au You can add to them whenever you like and therefore keep them up to date. Less than 5 lines is disappointing; 10 to 15 lines is normal; and

University of Sydney’s 2015 Convocation Medal Won by Alistair Kitchen

Alistair Kitchen is the University’s Convocation Medallist for 2015. Alistair was a BA (Advanced) student, who completed Honours in English (poetry) in 2014 with a very good First Class result. The Convocation Medal is one of the University’s most highly prized awards, and is given each year to a new graduate for academic achievement plus service to the University and beyond. The Convocation Medal has been won by a Pauline every year since 2011, except for 2012, when it was shared between two Paulines, and 2014 (but that year Ben Veness won the equivalent for coursework graduates, the Barton Medal). Martin Seneviratne was also shortlisted this year. Alistair has also won the College’s Lehane Medal for Leadership, 2014, shared with Edward Armitage. While in College, Alistair helped to lead the Outreach Syndicate, the focus group for charitable and philanthropic activities. Among other things, with Martin Seneviratne, he worked in Oro

Update on the College Master Plan

3 years ago 0

23 April 2015 This week, with the registration of the plan of subdivision of the land which the College has agreed to sell to the University, we have reached an exciting milestone in the staging and implementation of our Master Plan for expansion and enhancement of the existing College and the establishment of our new Graduate House. The process has taken several years of careful planning and consultation and required ministerial, Heritage Council and numerous governmental approvals, all now obtained. As announced by my predecessor as Chairman, Geoff Lovell, in late 2012 when the College distributed a detailed overview of the Master Plan, registration was a precondition of settlement of the land sold and hence for the receipt of the sale proceeds. The land is now the site of the Australian Institute of Nano-Science, a world-leading research and teaching facility which is already taking shape on our boundary. As receipt

The result of the poll for Lay Fellows is that Mr Andrew Purchas and Mr David Roberts are elected for six year terms. No poll was necessary for the three Clerical Fellow vacancies. The Reverend Andrew Sempell is re-elected for a six year term, The Reverend Dr Max Wood is elected for a three year term and The Reverend Dr James Collins is elected for a one year term. The count of votes was made on the evening of 14 May, 2015. The Returning Officer was assisted by our auditor as Chief Scrutineer and three other scrutineers. Also in attendance were three scrutineers appointed by candidates and three of the candidate. There were 592 votes cast, 321 votes electronically, and 271 by post. As the electoral roll totalled 2301 this represents a participation rate of 25.7% (2014 – no ballot, 2013 – 15.3%, 2012- 20.8%, 2011-15.5%). Note that the electoral
